The engineer who fixes it in thirty seconds has a diagnosis tree and follows it; the one who takes five minutes is guessing. The half-split method walks the signal path from source to console and rules out half of it with each check, so you find the cable, the phantom power, the mute, or the dead battery in a few moves. This drill throws a failure at you mid-song and asks you to work the tree under time pressure. The scoring rewards the fastest correct path, not just the right answer. Five rounds cover the failures that account for most show emergencies, and each one shows the professional sequence next to yours.
