What you are training
The room is an instrument in every live mix, and it changes as the night goes on. Room modes pile up bass in one corner and cancel it in another; comb filtering from a reflective wall hollows out the vocal at some seats and not others; a long decay smears everything once the room is loud; and the whole thing shifts when the audience walks in and absorbs the top end. Engineers who can diagnose a room fix the cause; engineers who cannot chase symptoms with EQ that helps one spot and hurts the rest. This drill plays a mix as heard from different positions in a virtual venue and asks you to name the acoustic problem. Five rounds cover the cases that come up in clubs, halls, and rooms with too much glass, with the fix that actually works for each.
After this drill, the plan: The daily plan drills critical distance next, the concept that tells you when EQ can still help and when only the system or the room can.
