EQ Match

Recreate the curve you hear.

6 rounds, about two minutes. Headphones help. Nothing is saved until you choose to.

What you are training

Matching an EQ by ear is where frequency identification becomes a mixing skill. You hear a processed version of a source, and you rebuild the move with your own EQ until the two sound the same: which band, boost or cut, how much, how wide. Real EQ decisions are rarely a single band, so the drill trains the shape of a curve, not just its centre. This is the loop a working engineer runs hundreds of times a day, compressed into six rounds with the answer shown as a curve over your attempt. It exposes two common problems immediately: over-boosting, because a 2 dB move sounds like nothing until you take it away, and choosing the wrong Q, which makes a correct band sound wrong. The reward is a faster, calmer EQ hand.

After this drill, the plan: The daily plan follows EQ Match with mix diagnosis on full stems, where the curve you hear has to be found inside a whole arrangement.
