What you are training
A soundcheck is a sequence, and the order is the skill. Line check every input before anyone plays; drums first because they are loudest and take longest; bass against the kick; then guitars, keys, and vocals, with monitors built as you go rather than at the end. Run out of time in the wrong order and the band walks on with no vocal in the wedges, which is the failure a whole night does not recover from. This drill puts you on a clock with a band, a list of inputs, and the usual interruptions, and asks you to sequence the check. The scoring rewards the order and the decisions to skip, because knowing what not to check is as important as knowing what to check. Five rounds cover a club changeover, a festival slot, and a no-soundcheck line check.
After this drill, the plan: The daily plan drills the line check and the drum check as fixed routines first, so the clock stops being the enemy.
